Gift Culture – Phoebe Phillips
We are delighted to announce that our next Gift Culture recipient is Phoebe Phillips. Amongst many other things, Phoebe is a ‘photographer’ of street art. Of course, Phoebe is in no way connected to what might be called ‘illegal’ works of graffiti. She is connected, however, to the enlivening and re-imagining of Western Australia’s public places through creative, artistic activity.
The $50 gift from the Gift Culture Experiment will enable Phoebe and others to meet their needs between now and the next time they are able to reveal a creative piece for everyone to experience. We will also make photos of future works available on this website. (All future Gift Culture recipients will also be featured here.) If you haven’t checked out previous work by Phoebe, you can see some of her photos below.
This gift is a clear example of the way in which contributions to cultural life benefit not just the human beings who receive the gift but also, through their artworks, society as a whole. In so doing, society itself can become an artwork through the support of human creative capacities that, in turn, benefit us all – ‘street art’ on the societal level.
