Re-Imaginers

There are a lot of people working to Re-Imagine Western Australia (If you are one of them we would love to be in contact, you can also join in a Re-Imaginers conversation on the Facebook Group).

Here are some groups and organisations that we have found that we think are doing interesting work (We know that we have missed lots of them so if you know of something fantastic that we don’t have up here please post it directly on our Facebook page or contact us)

If you are looking for others who are seeking to collaborate to create a healthy social infrastructure for Western Australia then check out Social Innovation in Western Australia (SiiWA)

Interested in creating sustainable communities? Then we recommend sneaking a peek at Living Smart  and taking part in a course in your local area. You might also want to take a look at Days of Change Ecoburbia and EmpowerWA. To meet some like minded people make sure you go to Perth Green Drinks and visit CUSP, their Thursday morning teas and seminars are great!

Noongar lessons are available at Tuart Place on Saturday mornings. If you are lucky you might catch Noongah Elder Dr Noel Nannup, sharing stories and the knowings and beings of the Noongah people at RePlant in Fremantle. If you are looking for creative and wonderful indigenous people, projects and organisations  take a look at these:  G Cole Consulting   is concerned with the construction of Aboriginal pride through ceremony, ritual and heritage. Sister Kate’s Home Kids Aboriginal Corporation provides healing programs that generate hope and a sense of cultural, social and emotional well being. The LiFE Academy provides free training to Indigenous people with a focus on an indigenous approach to counselling and healing.

If you’ve ever said there’s nothing to do in Perth then you haven’t visited Enjoy Perth

Wondering where to find enterprises that are creating social good? Enter WA into your  Social Enterprise Finder and take a look at all the fantastic social enterprises in this state. You might also want to take a look at  Many Rivers is a microenterprise development organisation that helps  to establish and develop micro and small businesses through business support and small loans.

If you are curious to see a list of Civil Society organisations in Perth and Western Australia then be sure to do a search on Wiser Earth. You can also add yours up there if you haven’t already.

Looking for a ‘State of Creativity’ then check out FORM and for those who are creatively inclined and would like to stay up to date on jobs, funding and workspace for those in the creative sector make sure visit Creative Crops.

And if you are between the ages of 16 – 30 and want to make doing good as mainstream as cheeseburgers and breathing’ then take a look at Useful Inc.

Looking for an inspiring work space? Have you seen the new collaborative co-working space on St George’s Tce. Then check out Spacecubed.

Looking for a Farmers Market near you? Farmersmarkets.org.au will show you where to go. And if you like the idea of edible gardens and urban agriculture then you will love the  Perth City Farm . Want to know where you can buy organic food? Wholefoods has created an extensive list of shops in the Perth Area.

And for all of those that Love Freo like we do, take a look at Love Freo! And while we’re thinking about Freo, check out Dismantle, FERN and Ecoburbia (their monthly movies are awesome) and don’t forget to follow the development of the Fremantle Wind Farm, The Wray Avenue Blog might spark you to start a blog for your own street and while we’re on Wray Ave it might be worth checking out RePlants that has a passion to preserve and respect the life of our local bushland AND it also hosts some fantastic community events.

Who knew that there was so much going on in Geraldton? Take a look at Pollinators Inc. a growing community of social entrepreneurs and their co-working space CityHive 

If you are looking to build a more connected community then check out Bank of IDEAS  for an abundant resource list and you can also check out an Asset Based Community Development Project that is happening in the Shire of Kalamunda called All We Need is Right Here: Within the Communities of the Shire of Kalamunda.

In recent months we have come accross a number of brilliant WA based organisations tackling important social challenges in creative and outstanding ways. Zero2Hero  focus on the prevention of youth suicide, and are providing children with a space to communicate and to challenge themselves and their assumptions. Depression WA (Gen Why?)  is open to those aged over 25 with depression or anxiety. aims to provide a positive encouraging environment to those with depression or anxiety and give them the tools and resources to move forward. The Global Good Foundation is a charity which is setting a global standard on the rehabilitation methods that are used for those affected by domestic violence, through provision of education, training and empowerment programs.
