A Creative Boom – By Katie Dobb

Many of us have come to call this land home – whether our ancestors have lived here for tens of thousands of years, whether we were born here, whether we have had children here, or whether our destiny has brought us here.

This place that sits on what we call the Swan River, and looks out west to sunsets over ocean. The place some call the most isolated city in the world; the biggest country town; and, lately, the largest Chinese mining camp.

This land now called Western Australia and this capital city now called Perth were tended for tens of thousands of years by one of the most ancient civilisations in the world. The land was once listened to deeply, and life was imbued with the spirit.

It is time again to be looking and listening closely to this place we call Perth in this place we call Western Australia. Some of you have been doing this for years, some never stopped, and for others it is the time to begin.

How do we awaken Perth and Western Australia to their highest potentials? – where, instead of aiming towards a growth of private wealth and milking the economic boom for this short time and this specific generation of people, we instead look towards our place as being healthy and sustainable for all, for the planet and for our future.

Where there is:

Cultural Diversity and Spiritual-Creative Freedom

Where I am free to be me and you are free to be you. Where we celebrate each other’s gifts and uniqueness. Where we each strive to be the best human being we can be.

Rights Equality

Where the dignity of every person is upheld equally. Where everyone has a voice and can participate in making and co-creating the agreements and decisions that shape our world.

Economic Solidarity

Where we work together to ensure the needs of every human being are met in a way that is sustainable for ourselves, society and the planet.

It is time for the Western Australian Renaisance, for a Creative Boom, for RePerthing Perth so it becomes the place it wants to be and can be – a place that can be home to all who live here.
