Gift Culture – PSAS: Pakenham Street Art Space

Our next Gift Culture recipient is PSAS: Pakenham Street Art Space. PSAS is a large converted warehouse in Fremantle’s West End offering subsidised artist studios.

From their website: “As Fremantle’s leading centre for artist studio spaces, the organisation has continued to build on its innovative foundations, growing to facilitate the expanding field of contemporary art through a wide variety of exhibition, studio, curatorial and education programs, including theatrical productions. With the artist firmly placed at the centre of all of our activities, we are positioned at the nexus between the production of contemporary art through our studio programs, and its presentation through our exhibitions and events. PSAS artist studios currently offers 43 studio spaces. Applications are submission based. If you are interested in applying for a studio please send a current CV and ten images to: admin@psas.com.au

PSAS beats in time with the artistic heartbeat of Fremantle and of Western Australia as a whole. To give them a financial gift is to help create opportunities for a large number of Western Australian artists whose work, in turn, benefits all of us. Our $50 gift will also help PSAS re-imagine the space, and explore new ways to assist in the unfolding of artistic and creative capacities of human beings here in WA.

The next exhibition is called Empire State: “Emerging artists Andrew Botfield, Joel Wynn Rees and Rhiannon Tully confront and engage the audience with a series of projections, large format photographic prints and interactive floor installation dealing with Perth’s urban mythology. Join us for this spatially confronting series of works on the ground floor at PSAS. Special guest Horst Kornberger will illustrate and guide us through this body of arresting and insightful works.” (Download the Flyer)

Horst Kornberger will be speaking as part of the opening on Saturday September 22 at 6:30pm – 22 Pakenham St, Fremantle.
